I really wanted to eat Indian curry...
A four-minute walk from Karasuma-Oike Subway Station. Tsukigase is tucked away in an apartment building along Sakaicho Street. The name of the shop is said to have been named after a famous ume (Japanese apricot) blossom, but this is not a store specializing in ume, but a long-established sweet shop established in Kyoto in the first year of the Showa period (1926).
As the name "Tsukigase of Anmitsu" has long been known, the specialty is Anmitsu.
In addition, the lineup of mitsumame, millet zenzai, and green tea parfait ...... is sure to be a hit with sweet tooths.
[I visited Tsukigase on a cold February Sunday, and when the restaurant opened at 12:00 p.m., it was almost full in no time, with customers arriving one after another.
The restaurant has a large table seating eight, two seats for four, and four seats for two. Although the space is small, the high ceiling and the sunlight streaming in through the glass windows give it a very open impression.
As it will soon be the Peach Festival, lovely dolls are on the shelves.
Although Tsukigase is a long-established restaurant with a long history, its warm and welcoming atmosphere makes it easy for anyone to visit. This may be another reason why Tsukigase has been a longtime favorite in Kyoto.
Strawberry cream anmitsu 1,500 yen. Accented with coconut-flavored warabimochi and kumquat milk agar.
After a 10-minute wait, the strawberry cream anmitsu (1,500 yen), lavishly using seasonal strawberries "Amao", was brought out. The shiny, glamorous dish will make you forget about the cold wind blowing outside, and your eyes will be glued to it.
In addition to the sweet azuki zenzai and the outstanding sweetness of the Amaou strawberries, the star of the show is the agar (agar). The texture of the agar is unique and unique.
The soft strawbutter mochi is flavored with coconut. The aroma is soft and fluffy without interfering with the flavor of the azuki beans, and disappears fleetingly.
Enjoying the change of taste with the rich strawberry sauce filled with pulp and condensed milk, we found ourselves finishing the dish in no time at all. We left the restaurant with our stomachs and hearts full of the season's strawberries.
In the refrigerated case in front of the cash register, you will find a selection of tsumame and anmitsu (sweet bean paste) to take home. The small cups are perfect for souvenirs.
Around the middle of March, a limited time offer of sakura anmitsu will also be available, which is another springtime treat. Please note that you need to make a reservation in advance to take home millet zenzai!
At Tsukigase, you can enjoy the delicacies of spring, summer, fall, and winter with high-quality Japanese ingredients. This is a restaurant you will want to visit every time the seasons change.
