We would like to introduce a café, [Books and Vegetables OyOy], located right next to Karasuma-Oike Subway Station.
This café is operated by Saka-no-tochu, which sells agricultural products, and Kamome Books, a bookstore in Kagurazaka, Tokyo.
Upon entering the store, one is greeted by a warm, woody interior and a wall of bookshelves. The bookshelves are lined with a wide range of books, including books on food culture from around the world and travel essays, but they are not divided into genres, so I enjoyed looking through the bookshelves to see what kind of books were available.
The store also sells special vegetables organically grown by partner farmers and rare seasonings.
The name of the restaurant [OyOy] expresses the desire to bring affluence and to slowly, but surely, become a part of people's lives.
[Saka-no-tochu was established in 2009 with the vision of "making agriculture last for the next 100 years. The company was established in 2009 with the vision of "farming that will last for 100 years. Aiming to promote environmentally friendly agriculture, we sell vegetables grown without relying on pesticides or chemical fertilizers. We have about 400 farmers in partnership with us.
[Books and Vegetables OyOy] is a place where [Sakano Tochu] expresses its cherished concept of "vegetables are living things" through its cuisine and space.
On this day, I ordered cheese toast (650 yen) and iced tea (600 yen). The cheese toast is a rare menu item available only on weekdays, and is made with bread from a bakery [Koharubiyori] in Horikawa, Kyoto, topped with cheese and seasonal fruit jam.
The large pickles as an accompaniment were also excellent. I would also like to try the homemade tomato sauce on toast, carrot cake, pudding, and other sweets made from the finest ingredients next time.
For the black tea, we chose Benifuuki Japanese black tea from Ninoraku Farm in Ehime Prefecture. It has a strong flavor, and when milk is added, it makes an excellent milk tea. For coffee lovers, we also recommend a special cup of specialty coffee made with consideration for the environment and community by "Umino-Okoukou Coffee," the coffee division of Saka-no-Tochu.
