Iroriyaki Yakubaba (Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto), located about an 8-minute walk from Kyoto Station, is a sister restaurant of the popular Shijo-Karasuma bar Sake-na Yonebae. The counter seats surrounding the cooking area are lined with seasonal vegetables and fish, allowing diners to enjoy the live cooking scene right in front of their eyes.
The signature dish is the hara-yaki, which is simply seasoned with salt and grilled over a charcoal fire in the sunken hearth. The most recommended dish is the grilled sardine with salt, a favorite of the proprietress. The restaurant also offers a variety of other attractive dishes, such as assorted sashimi made with fresh fish directly from the market and deep-fried corn.
This is an excellent bar that can be used to enjoy a meal or just a quick drink. If you are unsure about what to have for dinner near Kyoto Station, visit this bar. Reservations are recommended as it is a popular restaurant.
