TRAM: A New Age Corner Bar in Saiin

May 10, 2024 open

[The sister store of Beer Pub Takumiya and Takano Mugi-Shuten is TRAM (Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture), which was designed to resemble a corner bar of a liquor store. As the owner, Mr. Inaba, says, "It's like a neo kaku-uchi," the atmosphere is that of a new kind of bar spot. Since its opening, it has been crowded with highly sensitive people and has become a hot spot in Saiin. All kinds of craft beers from NUDE BEER, a brewery in Keihoku, are available, and you can taste them on draft poured from the tap.

TRAM Showcase

Many of the beers are low in alcohol, ranging from 3 to 51 TP3T, and are popular among women and those who do not normally drink alcohol because of their lightness and comfort that they do not get bored even every day. There are also many other unusual alcoholic beverages such as Japanese naturals wines, craft saké derived from Japanese sake, and craft gin. The lineup changes constantly and is available for purchase, so enjoy encountering new sakes. You can enjoy drinking while watching the streetcars rumbling past in front of you, and you are sure to get drunk with a good feeling.

TRAM Cuisine

Two types of steamed fresh shumai (glutinous rice and Kyomochi pork), 550 yen per person (photo shows two servings). The glutinous rice is made from ancient rice produced by Yamaukawa Farm in Kyotango, and venison from the same area is wrapped inside. Kyo Mochi Pork is juicy and full of meat juices!

TRAM Cuisine

Hamo Katsu (hamo cutlet) with Shibazuke Tartar (hamo tartar): 650 yen, NUDE BEER draft beer: 800 yen and up. Hamo (conger eel) cutlets are cut from the bones, marinated in brine, and deep-fried to order. The tartar made from roughly chopped and chewy Shibazuke (pickled Japanese horseradish) is a perfect accompaniment to alcoholic beverages.
