When you open the door to Issen Ururu (Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture), you enter a unique world of vintage clocks, record jackets, and photographer's photos. Mr. Nakanishi, who worked for many years in the halls of restaurants, created this space with the hope that his customers would enjoy not only the food but also the atmosphere of the restaurant.
The menu includes Japanese sake, obanzai and other dishes made with Kyoto ingredients. [The obanzai at Issen Uru-Uru is prepared with a flexible conception, using Western vegetables as the main ingredient, while respecting Kyoto's food culture. The dishes are also seasoned to go well with sake.
The name of the restaurant is a combination of the historical term "issen," which means to drink a cup of sake, and the soft word "Uru-Uru. The name expresses the desire to make the store a place where not only sake connoisseurs, but also those who want to try sake can feel free to visit. Twice a week, a café is open, serving coffee and unique toast topped with Kyoto vegetables.
