The long-awaited revival of the famous restaurant [Moan] on the top of Mt. Yoshida
Moan, a well-known and popular cafe located at the top of Mt. Yoshida, closed its doors in the summer of 2022, but reopened in January of this year, no longer serving food but focusing mainly on coffee and tea. The building was built in the Taisho era (1912-1926) for the tea ceremony, and together with the surrounding tea house, is designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
Ice cream with matcha green tea for 700 yen. The freshly brewed Uji green tea, served separately, is warm and a perfect combination with the cold, sweet ice cream. Soft drink and small snack 1100 yen. The staff recommended the Yuzu Soda as the drink of choice. Comes with cookies and caramel nut kinako (soybean flour) sprinkles.
Surrounded by trees, the restaurant has a tranquil atmosphere as if time has stopped, and seats are placed by the window to enjoy the view of the city of Kyoto. The view of both Daimonji characters is also a unique privilege. The shaved ice, available this summer, is the perfect way to cool down after a day of climbing.
It is only about 15 minutes from the base of the mountain and is a great way to enjoy the glorious green mountains in summer. Currently, reservations can be made through the website on a first-come, first-served basis.
