Rokkaku-dori side, where bicycles were once lined up as a show window. Currently there is [Blue Bottle Coffee] there, and you can feel free to use it even if you don't need to go to a bicycle shop.
``When we had the construction company check the earthquake resistance, we found out that there was a risk of collapse in the event of a large earthquake, so we made extensive repairs.At the beginning of the repairs, we decided to line up the bicycles in rows like in the old days. That's what I was thinking, but as construction progressed, I wondered if we could do something as a ``Cycle Hub'' that would serve as a center for gathering people.

When I visited Europe on a field trip to explore this idea, I saw many bicycle shops and cafes. I thought a cafe would be a place where people could easily gather, so I approached Blue Bottle Coffee. Then I said, ``That's a bicycle shop with bicycles displayed on the roof!'' It seemed like the person knew me and the conversation progressed quickly. This bond was created because we protected the townhouse."
``In order to connect the past 100 years and the next 100 years, we are trying to preserve as much as possible,'' says Miyamoto. Not only the beams and walls, but also the window lattice and low windows of the bar on the 2nd floor of [Blue Bottle Coffee], the emergency bell, the ceiling board, and even the bicycle tools and wooden drawers that have been carefully used for over 100 years since the opening of Blue Bottle Coffee. The history of Mr. Miyamoto and his relatives can be felt throughout the building, such as the bicycle on the roof that has remained unchanged since the end of the war.

``The elderly people in my neighborhood say to me, ``I see you're still running a bicycle shop,'' and ``Grandmas and uncles are happy.'' That alone made me really glad I kept it. I want to continue living with this building for a long time,'' says Miyamoto, looking ahead to the next 100 years. Today, along with this townhouse, it serves as the town's "HUB" and warmly welcomes visitors.
