It was founded in 1718 on Senbon-dori in Nishijin and moved to its current location in the early Meiji period. The three-story wooden building has an impressive authentic Sukiya-zukuri style, making it stand out in the surrounding area, and has the atmosphere of a long-established store.

Kawadoko is limited to 7 groups per day, and all seats are special seats facing the Kamogawa River. While incorporating seasonal ingredients and cherishing traditional flavors, Kyoto cuisine incorporates new ingredients and techniques to decorate the table.
