Sales office of an agricultural corporation located in Kosaji, Koka City.
The area was once the bottom of Lake Biwa and is blessed with clay soil called "zurinko." The area is famous for its high quality glutinous rice, Shiga Haniue glutinous rice. In addition to selling rice cakes and other processed products, a food and beverage corner is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The menu includes freshly pounded rice cakes and chikara udon noodles.
The rice cakes are made with a firm, elastic texture that is surprisingly resilient. Yomogi mochi, with its rich aroma, is a popular takeout item.
Mugwort mochi (2 pieces), 300 yen, uses mugwort with only the new shoots picked by hand, and is filled with a generous amount of bean paste from Minakuchi Seian.
The crispy and chewy arare (rice crackers) come in an assortment of five varieties, including ao nori (green laver) and yuzu (yuzu citron). Both are made of Shiga Habutae glutinous rice flour. The shop is closed during the summer, so look forward to its reopening in September.
