THE CITY BAKERY, a popular bakery from New York, USA, opened its Nishiki-koji branch, its third in Kyoto. The store, renovated from an old Japanese confectionery store, has a very relaxing space with a fusion of old and new, with beams and ceilings preserved as they are.
The signature pretzel croissant, 410 yen, has a crunchy surface and a chewy, buttery interior. The sweetness of the dough is well accented by the rock salt topping.
The menu includes about 50 to 60 varieties of breads and pastries, including the ever-popular pretzel croissant and other Kyoto-only breads and pastries, that line the store shelves every day, attracting workers and shoppers in the neighborhood. The scene is truly New York!
