Komatsu" in the restaurant name is the surname of owner-chef Shinji Ishida's grandmother. Ishida's grandmother lived here for 70 years and ran a diner and tavern. His grandmother passed away two years ago. Mr. Ishida, who had been thinking of establishing his own business someday while honing his skills at the famous Italian restaurant Ponte Vecchio in Osaka, had no hesitation in choosing this location. My grandmother's restaurant was once loved by many people. I wanted to inherit both the location and the building, so I renovated it, preserving the atmosphere of the original house.
The machiya with a large glass front is chic and stylish, with walls painted black while utilizing some of the original columns and beams, and an open kitchen that spreads out in front of the counter. I think we got off to a relaxed start by opening in the Corona Disaster," says Ishida, whose enthusiasm can be felt in the menu, which features only one course for both lunch and dinner.
Lunch includes an appetizer, two kinds of pasta, a main dish, and dolce, while three kinds of appetizers are available at night. He says, "I hope to express the changes of the seasons while placing importance on seasonal ingredients," and makes each dish a beauty that is pleasing to the eye. While enjoying the cuisine with paired wines, you will want to give a shout out to the restaurant, which has started a new step forward at this location.
