[2023] 24 Recommended Autumn Foliage Light-Ups in Kyoto
The temple was built in 1606 by Kitamasasho (Nene), the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, to mourn his death. The inner sanctuary of the mausoleum where Nene was buried is decorated with the elegant and delicate "Kodaiji maki-e" of the Momoyama period (1573-1600).
It is also known as a famous spot for weeping cherry blossoms in the Hashin garden in spring and for more than 1,000 autumn leaves in autumn. Special night visits are held in both spring and autumn, and the front garden of the Hojo, "Hashintei," is specially set up according to the theme, making it a dry landscape garden that is different from the usual season. When it is lit up, you can enjoy the mysterious scenery of cherry blossoms in spring, and the fantastic scenery reflected in the mirror-like Garyu Pond in autumn.
