SHELTERING CAFE, opened in 2022 in Katsura, Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto, by designer and owner Chima, was born from his desire to realize an imaginary story he drew on a T-shirt he designed: "A cafe where you can enjoy 7 kinds of carefully selected coffee from around the world while taking shelter from the rain with the friendly owner. The café is full of creativity. The café offers seven kinds of carefully selected coffee beans. In addition to enjoying freshly ground coffee, customers can order light meals such as handmade baked sweets with a gentle taste made with 100% domestically produced wheat and butter, and egg sandwiches made with four fresh eggs with a broth-scented half-boiled egg sandwiched between additive-free bread.
The name of the restaurant is an adaptation of the word "shelter," meaning a shelter from the rain or a shelter or a hut. In addition to single customers who come to spend time leisurely and groups of friends chatting, there are also many parents and their children, as there is a shopping district and an elementary school nearby. The frontage of the store is wide enough to allow mothers with small children to enter without folding up strollers, in the hope that they can also spend time in a relaxed atmosphere. Today, many people visit the store to take shelter from the rain in a relaxing space with comfortable sofas, picture books, and cute knick-knacks.
