The Soju kiln has a studio and gallery facing Higashioji-dori in Higashiyama, Kyoto, and has preserved and passed down the colors of celadon porcelain from generation to generation. The technique of mixing pigments into the porcelain clay is called "nerikomi celadon" and requires more processes and labor than ordinary celadon, but it produces a deep and unique blue color. When a craftsman who had inherited the techniques of Koishiwara Pottery in Fukuoka married the fourth generation of Wonnami Sohon, who had preserved this tradition, the couple launched Soju Kiln, which fused two techniques from different production areas, and began their creative activities together. Since then, the "Tobikanna" series has become a representative work of Sohjigama.
Tobikanna is a unique pattern handed down in Koishiwara Pottery, and its technique is also original. By using a spring from an old clock on a kneaded celadon fabric, glaze accumulates in the grooves and a pattern emerges.
In addition to kneaded celadon, there are also white porcelain fabrics and variations of designs with celadon glaze under the line pattern.
