A fascinating collection that will never fade away "Linking Mingei: Engruri - from the Collection of Tamesaburo Yamamoto" / Asahi Group Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art, Japan

Saturday, April 19, 2025 - Sunday, July 6, 2025
10:00-17:00 (Last admission/16:30)
Asahi Group Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art

From April 19 (Sat) to July 6 (Sun), 2025, the Asahi Group Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art (Otokuni-gun, Kyoto Prefecture) will hold the exhibition "Linking Folk Art: Engururi - from the Collection of Tamesaburo Yamamoto.
The exhibition focuses on the collection of Tamesaburo Yamamoto, who was the first president of Asahi Beer (now Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd.) and a supporter of the folk art movement, Tatsuaki Kuroda, Goryo Aota, and Ethel Mehle). The exhibition pairs the artists consecutively, and the works and episodes of each artist bring their relationship to light like a circle, drawing attention to the relationship between each of the nine artists, their unexpected commonalities, and the connections among the people who derive from the circle.

Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art Matcha Green Tea Circle

Matcha Nowa 990 yen, made with dough richly infused with Uji matcha green tea from Wazuka Town, Kyoto, and fragrant matcha butter cream and white chocolate ganache

In the museum's coffee shop, two types of round sweets are available, inspired by the circle of the rim that connects all the way around. After the exhibition, it is recommended to spend some time relaxing while admiring the garden with its seasonal expressions.
The collection is still as appealing today as it was 100 years ago when the word "Mingei" was first coined.
