The 27th "Mitsumasa Anno: Ryotaro Shiba and the City of Memories" and "Rakuchu Rakugai" are being held at the [House in the Forest: Anno Mitsumasa Museum] until March 4, 2024 (Monday).
Mitsumasa Anno, a landscape painter who traveled the world, was a close friend of Ryotaro Shiba, author of "Kaido yuku" (On the Road), and they traveled together for five years until Shiba's death. After Shiba's death, Mitsumasa Anno revisited the towns he had visited, and exhibited scenes from these memorable towns, which he painted lyrically. In addition, the "Rakuchu Rakugai" series has produced 95 paintings over an eight-year period from 2011 to 2018, and 33 works are on display this time, mainly landscapes of Tango.
He has visited various parts of Kyoto and painted his favorite places. In particular, he visited Tango many times to paint the landscape of Tango, saying, "Tango is also outside of Rakugai.
Enjoy thinking about where Mitsumasa Anno felt "I want to see this place" or "I feel very nostalgic" and how he looked at Tango and painted it.
