Ryukoku Museum
Michinoku Itoshii Butsuri Tachi" is being held at the Ryukoku Museum until Sunday, November 19, 2023.
During the Edo period (1603-1867), temples throughout Japan had splendid, gilded Buddhist statues made in Kamigata and Edo, while simple and unique Buddhist and Shinto statues were worshipped in small halls, shrines, and private homes at Buddhist altars and Shinto shelves. This exhibition introduces approximately 130 Buddhist and Shinto statues that were handed down in Aomori, Iwate, and Akita prefectures.
