Kenninji Temple
The Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art opened 100 years ago in 1923 in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. To commemorate the museum's 100th anniversary, 19 high-resolution facsimiles of rare Japanese paintings from the museum's collection will be exhibited at Kenninji Temple, the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. Normally, most of the works in the museum's collection are not available for public viewing, but in the precincts of Kenninji, the works can be displayed without glass cases, which is not possible with the originals, and can be viewed in natural light, allowing visitors to appreciate them in an environment reminiscent of the time when they were painted.
