The "Ayabe Mizunazuki Festival" will be held in Ayabe City on Saturday, July 22.
This summer festival in the ancient capital has a 100-year history, which began at the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912) when lanterns were floated down the river as a memorial service for ancestors. Today, the lantern floating has been succeeded as "Mantonagashi" to pray for peace, and colorful lanterns flow down the Yura River, creating a summer atmosphere. The festival reaches its climax at 8:00 p.m. with approximately 4,000 fireworks, which are launched right in front of you from the banks of the Yura River.
