To commemorate the third anniversary of the Fukuda Art Museum in Arashiyama, Kyoto, a collection exhibition will be held from July 16, 2022 (Saturday), featuring modern paintings from the museum's collection of approximately 1,800 works, many of which have never been exhibited before.
Of the 97 works to be exhibited, nearly half will be on view for the first time. Famous works by leading artists such as Yokoyama Taikan and Uemura Shoen, as well as masterpieces by artists who pioneered a new style of Japanese painting, such as Sugiyama Nei's large work "Shomikari" (Compassion Light), which will be on view for the first time in 35 years.
In addition, 13 prints and 5 original drawings made by leading artists of the time are on display as an appendix to "The Complete Works of Chikamatsu" (1923), a collection of works by Monzaemon Chikamatsu, known for his puppet theater, and the museum's collection of modern art. Visitors are encouraged to visit the museum many times between changing exhibits.
