Cello x Noh Play x Live Painting at World Heritage Kamigamo Shrine

Saturday, December 4, 2021
4:30 p.m.
Kamigamo Shrine (Babadono)

The exhibition and performance event, organized by the voluntary organization Gallery G-77, will be held at Babaden, Kamigamo Shrine, a World Heritage site. Andrei Mikhailov, who runs Gallery G-77, a voluntary organization in Nakagyo-ku, Tokyo, has invited four artists from different fields to participate in this event, which aims to revitalize the traditional Japanese performing arts and art industry in the wake of the Corona Disaster.
Cellist Tsubaki Yamaguchi, who will celebrate his 92nd birthday this year, will play the cello, while Noh performer Haruhisa Kawamura of the Kanze school will perform his masterpiece "Yuzu," and painter Keisuke Watanabe will improvise a 12-meter long scroll depicting this ethereal scene. In addition, contemporary dancer Asami will highlight the contrasting worlds of Noh and Nohgaku to create an energetic and sophisticated world. Don't miss this one-night-only event featuring a spectacular cast of performers.

*The scrolls painted by Keisuke Watanabe will be exhibited at Kamigamo Shrine from Monday, December 6 to Wednesday, December 10, from 10:00 to 18:00.
