[2023] Never remove it! Recommended for New Year's visit to the gods of Kyoto...
This shrine was built in 794 (Enryaku 13), on the occasion of the relocation of the capital to the south of the capital, to pray for the protection of the capital and the country. The shrine is widely worshipped as a god of directional protection, and many people visit the shrine to pray for traffic safety, family happiness, protection from bad luck, and safety in construction and moving to a new house.
The main shrine was built in the architectural style of the late Heian period. The shrine garden "Rakusui-en" is planted with more than 80 species of plants and trees depicted in the Tale of Genji, and is affectionately known as the "Flower Garden of the Tale of Genji. The annual "Kyokusui-no-En" on April 29 recreates an elegant poetry party of the Heian period (794-1185). The garden is also known for its weeping plum blossoms, camellias, and autumnal foliage, offering beautiful scenery from season to season.
