From June 3 (Sat) to August 27 (Sun), 2023, "Aiko Miyanaga - Umi wo yomu MIYANAGA Aiko Exhibition" will be held at [ZENBI - Kagizen Ryobo - KAGIZEN ART MUSEUM].
Artist Aiko Miyanaga expresses "a world that continues to exist despite change" through objects made of daily necessities in the shape of naphthalene, and installations using salt, leaf veins, and the penetrating sound of ceramics.
Ms. Miyanaga is also the great-granddaughter of the first generation Miyanaga Tozan, a Kyoto-yaki ceramic artist who established the "Miyanaga Tozan Kiln. In recent years, she has returned her base of activities to her birthplace of Kyoto, where she has been creating works that connect the past with the present by pouring glass into old molds that still remain in her pottery studio.
What are the things that have been in our homes for a long time but we have never paid attention to them? What kind of scenery is there? What kind of shapes and forms lie there? With these thoughts in mind, the works are removed from their molds and created. It is also a visit to the past," says Miyanaga.
This exhibition features his new work, "Sea Sleeping in a Hollow - Cat," as well as "key" motifs associated with Kagizen Ryobo and glass works inspired by the wooden molds in Kagizen's collection.
Molds that have been handed down as a way of life, and the works that are produced today. Take your time to look at each piece and feel the flow of time from the past to the present and into the future.
