A special exhibition introducing the transition of Hina dolls to the gorgeous Goten-dori Hina is being held at the Heisei-Chishinkan of the Kyoto National Museum from February 4 (Sat.) to March 5 (Sun.), 2023.
The "Jogetsu" ceremony was held to perform misogi by transferring impurities from daily life to dolls. The dolls used in misogi eventually became associated with children's doll games, and developed into hina dolls to be displayed in the tatami room.
In addition to the evolution of the Hina dolls introduced in this exhibition, visitors can enjoy various aspects of the doll culture nurtured in Miyako, including various types of Kyoto dolls such as Gosho dolls and Kamo dolls.
