The Aoya Plum Grove boasts a vast site of approximately 20 hectares in the southern hills of Joyo City, Kyoto. The Aoya Plum Grove boasts as many as 10,000 plum trees, including old and aged trees. There is a record of a poem written in the late Kamakura period (1185-1333), and the area has been popular with the general public as a scenic spot for plum blossoms since ancient times. Since 1984, the "Plum Blossom Festival" has been held from February to March. The festival has become a springtime tradition that attracts as many as 20,000 visitors every year.
