From January 2 (Sat.) to 29, 2023, an exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of photographer Hiroshi Mizomori's career will be held at the Museum of Art "Eki" KYOTO, located in the JR Kyoto Station Building.

Kyoto-based photographer Hiroshi Mizomori (born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1949), who moved to Kyoto when he started working, was captivated by a maiko he first met on Shijo Hanamikoji street at dusk. The owner of a teahouse told him, "Please take good pictures of maiko. She told me, "Please take a good picture of the maiko, because she may not be able to stay. In the 1970s, when the number of maiko was decreasing, she decided to preserve Kyoto's Hanamachi district in her photographs. He decided to preserve Kyoto's Hanamachi through photography.

This exhibition features approximately 150 works, including "Gion of the Showa Era" (Gion Koubu), which he began photographing in 1973, as well as scenes of the town to this day and the daily lives of the people living in the Hanamachi district, including the appearance of gei-maiko (geisha and apprentice geisha).
