From September 3, 2022 (Sat), an exhibition of the Gyokudo collection left by collector Hashimoto Sekisetsu will be held at the Hakusamura-so Hashimoto Sekisetsu Memorial Museum near Ginkakuji Temple.
Urakami Gyokudo (1745-1820) was a literati painter who escaped from the feudal domain while rising in the ranks at a young age, wandered around the country with a koto on his back, and spent his later years in Kyoto. The exhibition will feature 19 works from the collection of Sekisetsu, who was active in collecting works of Uragami Gyokudo's father and son and published a book on his work. In addition to the landscape paintings highly praised by Sekisetsu, Gyokudo's own seven-stringed zither will also be on display.
