The main gate of Shorinji Temple

Called Bishamonten of Tofukuji [Shorinji]

It is one of the sub-temples (temples within the precincts of the main temple) of [Tofuku-ji Temple], and was founded as Shorin-an in 1550 (Tenmon 19) by the 205th chief priest of Tofuku-ji Temple, Reisho Takaoka. Located at Tofuku-ji Temple's unlucky gate, it is called 'Tofuku-ji Temple's Bishamonten' because it protects Buddhism and the north.
The principal image of the temple, Bishamonten, is usually closed to the public, but special visits are held every spring and autumn. In autumn, the beautiful “kissho foliage,” which is said to be home to the goddess of good fortune, “kisshoten,” pleases the eyes of visitors. In recent years, the colorful flower chozubachi with various flowers has become a hot topic on social media.
