From May 28, 2022, an exhibition will be held at the Izumiya Hakkokan in Kyoto, Japan, on the theme of exploring the beauty of lacquer.
Lacquer has developed over a long period of time, with each region of China, Korea, and Japan developing its own unique techniques. The lacquerware exhibited in this exhibition is of practical use in various settings, such as banquets, tea rooms, and Noh stages.
The exhibition also introduces the latest restoration techniques, using as an example the famous Dui Huang Bon, a piece of lacquerware from the Ming Dynasty in China, which is on display for the first time after restoration. Visitors can learn about the craftsmanship required to pass down the art to the people over time.
