Kizugawa City
Kizugawa City

A town rich in nature and dotted with places where you can feel the history and culture dating back to the Nara period. There are spots that exist only because there are forests and rivers.
During the Nara period, Kizugawa City served as the capital of Japan and was home to Kyoningu Shrine for more than five years. Starting with ancient shrines and temples such as Joruri-ji Temple and Gansen-ji Temple, there are spots that convey history and culture to the present day, such as ancient burial mounds, castle ruins, and stone Buddha statues. In the prefecture, it has the second most nationally designated tangible cultural property after Kyoto City, and is home to rare and valuable historical heritage. The rich nature is also one of the attractions, and there are art festivals that fuse modern art with everyday local spaces, and there are facilities where you can learn about and taste the specialty tea, while walking and camping while enjoying forests and rivers. A town with a wide range of pleasures where you can spend a relaxing time using your five senses.

Fukujuen is a long-established tea shop founded in the 2nd year of the Kansei period. Precisely because we have preserved and handed down Japanese tea culture, we have opened a facility where you can become more familiar with tea in the place where our company was founded. Reservations are required for a valuable experience related to tea, and there are several types of workshops, such as grinding a stone mill and making matcha and drinking it (1,320 yen), and a tea brewing class (1,320 yen). After the tour, you can see exhibitions introducing how tea is made, tea styles from around the world such as England and Russia, and the history of Fukujuen. Moist, smooth and slightly sweet muffins

It opened as a specialty store over 10 years ago. The large, filling, handmade muffins, which some fans visit from outside the prefecture, have a crunchy texture on the outside and a moist, smooth texture on the inside. Using Hokkaido wheat as a base and Kyushu milled wheat, the dough is said to have been made hundreds of times before being perfected, and five types of domestic sugar are added to create a mildly sweet version that Japanese people prefer. There are always 20 to 25 types of muffins on display at any given time, including muffins with matcha, jam, etc., or muffins with marshmallows or white chocolate hidden inside. For eat-in, please use the attached cafe.
