No matter how many times you visit, you will find something new! Nijo Castle in Kyoto...
Thursday, January 13, 2022 - Sunday, February 13, 2022
Nijo Castle 9:00-16:00 (reception closed), Kiyomizu Temple West Gate 6:00-18:00, Kyodo 9:00-18:00
The Kiyomizu Temple Sutra Hall is open from Thursday, January 13 to Sunday, February 6.
Oki Sato is a Japanese designer and architect whose work includes designing the torch stand for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The design office "nendo," led by Mr. Kato, and Kyoto's artisans, who are the bearers of arts, crafts, and lifestyle culture nurtured by Kyoto's nature and climate, will collaborate to present works that express new Japanese beauty in the traditional arts and crafts fields at the Nijo Castle Daitosho and Goshosho.
An installation inspired by the Sutra Hall and West Gate of Kiyomizu-dera Temple will also be exhibited at the same time.
Participating will be Raku Naairi (Raku Kichizaemon XV), Nakamura Sotetsu XIII, Onishi Seiwemon XVI, Ogawa Katsuaki (Ueji, the next XII), Miyazaki Furniture, Kojima Shoten, and Shoeido, a long-standing incense shop.
This exhibition, titled "NENDO SEES KYOTO," was created with the hope of bringing a new "perspective" from the outside to techniques and places that have been handed down from generation to generation for over hundreds of years, in order to bring out different expressions and the charms of Kyoto. We are sure you will encounter new discoveries.
