[Ninnaji Temple] has a deep connection with the Imperial Family
The "Kyoto Marathon 2025" was held as scheduled on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Although rain was forecasted, it was a beautiful day.
Leaf KYOTO editorial staff members participated in the event with mixed feelings of excitement, nervousness, and anxiety, and here is their report.
The Kyoto Marathon features an interesting course that takes runners around seven World Cultural Heritage sites and offers views of the Gozan mountains, famous for their bonfires, and other famous tourist attractions in one day.
A Kyoto Marathon specialty. [Monks of Ninna-ji Temple cheering for the runners.
It was a little strange and interesting to be running on a road that I always drive on, and the close proximity of the runners to the cheering crowds along the route was one of the attractions of the event. Even though I live in Kyoto, it was a very fresh and valuable experience. When my legs and arms are all aching and I feel like giving up and wanting to quit, the many cheers encourage me to finish the race and achieve my goal.
The strong support from the "Roadside Enthusiasts," family, friends, and even strangers was most energizing.
[At the Kyoto Botanical Garden, geiko and maiko from the Gion Koubu area also cheer the visitors on in a spectacular manner.
This convention was supported by about 7,000 volunteers and staff. Every part of the event was handled in a very cheerful and energetic manner. My hat is off to all the kind-hearted people who volunteered their Sunday off with a passionate desire to support the event. Thanks to so many people, the Kyoto Marathon was made possible, and I can only thank you again for allowing me to participate as a runner in this way.
This year, "atelier kyo baamu (hojicha flavor)" was added to the school lunch. It was very delicious. Thank you so much to all the volunteers!
At the "Okoshiyasu Hiroba" held two days before and the day before the race, and at the "Otsukaresama Hiroba" on the day of the race, a wide variety of booths including those of sponsors and food stalls typical of Kyoto were set up, giving the impression that not only runners but also all visitors were enjoying themselves. I felt that the Kyoto Marathon is a wonderful marathon that brings the city of Kyoto together, not only for the runners, but also for the many people who support the runners, volunteers, and management staff, who get involved, cooperate, and support each other to convey the charms of Kyoto. I felt that it was a wonderful marathon that brought the city of Kyoto together.
If you have never participated before, next year you are invited to become one of the main actors and experience running through Kyoto!
