Today we will introduce you to a Spanish restaurant [Spanish Bar Ternura], a hideaway in the heart of Kyoto.
The restaurant is located in a back alley in the downtown area called Shinkyogoku, just outside Exit 9 of Hankyu's Kyoto Kawaramachi Station. From the outside, the restaurant has a Spanish atmosphere, inviting a sense of excitement.
Inside the restaurant, blackboards with recommended menus and bottles of wine line the walls, exactly as you would find in a Spanish bar.
The first floor has about 20 seats at the counter and tables, and the second floor is also available for private parties, making it ideal for New Year's parties and parties. There is also a terrace outside, where you can enjoy your meal while feeling the pleasant breeze on a fine day.
On this day, I visited during lunch time. There are five types of lunch menus to choose from, each with generous portions. Here are the contents.
Paella (1100 yen)
Paella with fish and shellfish, salad, 3 appetizers
Grilled Iga pork shoulder (1,200 yen)
Grilled shoulder loin, salad, 2 appetizers, homemade bread
Cabbage roll with fish (1,100 yen)
Tomato cream sauce, salad, 2 appetizers, homemade bread
Lamb steak (1,800 yen)
Lamb steak, salad, 2 appetizers, homemade bread
Chicken thigh confit (1,500 yen)
Confit, salad, 2 appetizers, homemade bread
I was told that the restaurant's specialty is "paella" with broth, but this time I chose "grilled shoulder of pork from Iga" which caught my attention.
The plates are beautifully arranged with a variety of dishes and look very luxurious. The main course, shoulder roast, was juicy and went perfectly with the accompaniments and appetizers. The homemade bread was especially excellent!
The homemade bread here is said to be made with the finest ingredients, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the outside was crispy and crunchy like nothing I had ever tasted before.
It is also possible to enjoy wine from noon, and they even have an all-you-can-drink menu.
They also offer a 7-course menu (6,000 yen including tax) that includes 90 minutes of all-you-can-drink and the ever-popular paella. Next time, I would definitely like to visit during the evening bar time and enjoy the food and wine at leisure.
