The well-known Kyoto ramen restaurant "Honke Daiichi Asahi" opened its first directly-managed restaurant in Kyoto, "Honke Daiichi Asahi Karasuma" (Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture). The store is located near Shijo-Karasuma, which is conveniently accessible, and has become a hot topic of conversation immediately after its opening.
The famous Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen has been passed down from generation to generation since the establishment in 1947. The soup is made by combining broth made from pork bones from a Japanese sow called Chudanuki, which has little fat, and soy sauce made by a long-established restaurant in Fushimi, to create a rich and mellow taste.
The seared chashu pork bowl and hashi-niku bowl, topped with an ajitama (flavored egg), are available only at the Karasuma branch. The yakiniku pork, made from tender thigh and belly meat, is thick with just the right amount of fat to give it a satisfying texture. For those who want to fully enjoy the restaurant's specialty, order a double bowl of ramen and a bowl of rice.
The building, a renovated quaint machiya (townhouse), has seats on the second floor and is spacious enough to accommodate families. Recommended for those who want to get a boost of energy in the morning.
