[2022] 25 Autumn Leaves Illuminations in Kyoto
Kuzuryu Taisha Shrine (Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) originated in Yase, Kyoto, in 1954. The main deity enshrined at the shrine is Kuzuryu Benzaiten, the goddess of mercy, who is said to remove various disasters and troubles in life and to provide protection. Since its inception, there has been a unique way of praying called "Ochidou". First, visitors pray at the front of the shrine, and then walk clockwise around the main shrine holding nine bamboo O-chidotsu sticks. After repeating the process nine times and returning all the O-chitose sticks, return to the front of the main shrine.
At Gagakuden, located on the pilgrimage route of Ochido, visitors can see a painting of a nine-headed dragon ascending to the Shinto realm. Also, to the left of the main hall, next to the first sacred tree, is the Snake Stone, where a white snake is said to have appeared. The white snake is the messenger of the Great Goddess of Benzaiten, the Kuzuryu, and is said to bestow money, good fortune, and popularity. Take your time to visit the temple grounds and receive blessings.
