Found near Heian Shrine, Kyoto! Spice and the proprietor's ...
The owner, Katsuyuki Yamamoto, is a volleyball player turned udon chef. After training as an udon chef in various locations, he renovated his grandmother's house and opened the restaurant in 2006. Yamamoto's grandmother also ran an udon store at the same location 50 years ago.
The noodles are characterized by good elasticity and smoothness, and you can taste the firmness of udon noodles while they are smooth. The most popular menu items are the kitsune udon and the meat miso udon, in which spicy meat miso accents the flavor of the broth. Both are characterized by their thin noodles and smooth texture. The perfect balance between the resilience of the noodles and the strong flavor of the broth makes for an appetizing dish.
The neighborhood is dotted with some of Kyoto's best sightseeing spots, including Heian Shrine and the Kyoto Kyocera Museum of Art. Because of its convenient location, the restaurant is always crowded with tourists from all over the world. Reservations can be made by phone on the day of your visit, so it is recommended to make a reservation in advance before visiting the restaurant.
