From November 1 (Friday) to December 8 (Sunday), 2024, "NAKED Night Walk™ Hieizan Sakamoto" will be held in the Hieizan Sakamoto area (Sakamoto, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture), which has been selected as a national Important Preservation District for Traditional Buildings, as an autumn night walk event to explore historical buildings and autumn leaves.
This year, Seigen-ji Temple, the birthplace of Saicho, the founder of Enryaku-ji Temple and revered as a special sacred place, will be illuminated for the first time. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing autumn evening strolling through the temple grounds illuminated by warm lights inspired by dandelion flowers and enjoying refreshments from a food truck. In addition, the Sakamoto Tourist Association Tourist Information Center will hold a workshop where visitors can make their own original "NAKED Distance Lanterns ®︎" (participation fee 500 yen per person). With your own unique lantern art in hand, enjoy the beautiful scenery of Sakamoto with its "Anou-shu" stone walls, which are made by skillfully combining natural stones that have not been processed.
