From January 20 (Sat) to February 18 (Sun), 2024, the popular science fiction anime series "Macross Frontier" and "Macross Delta", both of which are celebrating their 40th anniversary, will collaborate with the traditional Japanese performing art "Kabuki" at the Minamiza Theater in Kyoto for the "Macross F and Delta Matching Kyoto Minamiza Kabuki No Entei.
For this exhibition, Shochiku will supervise the Kabuki design, and "Macross F" main character Saotome Alto, diva Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee in Kabuki costume will be newly drawn by character designer Risa Ebata, and "Macross Delta" divas Tactical Music Unit "Valkyrie and Yami_Q_ray will be newly drawn by character designer Majiro.
At the pre-event held on Friday, January 19, "Macross Delta" singer Junna Migumo Ginne Maire, who had visited the exhibition earlier in the day, took the stage and said, "I was surprised to be allowed to see such a world. I was happy to see up close the Kabuki costumes that matched the Valkyries' personalities. It is not often that you get to be on stage at the Minami-za, so I hope that you will take this opportunity to come and enjoy the show. I have grown to love both Kabuki and Macross! He commented. During his stay in Kyoto, he visited Kurumaori Shrine, Kamigamo Shrine, and a coffee shop, and reported that he was able to enjoy sightseeing despite his short stay in Kyoto.
Inside the theater, character panels and mini-characters in kabuki costumes, as well as actual kabuki costumes and props, will be on display, allowing visitors to enjoy taking photos and videos as they walk around. In addition, a special on-stage photo spot has been prepared, where the three characters from "Macross F" are displayed in a fantastic space with an image of outer space, and "Macross Delta" is brightly and gorgeously displayed among the props of the kabuki performance "Kyokako Musume Dojoji," which was the subject of this collaboration. In addition, there are original goods and special offers for visitors, making this a diverse event that can be fully enjoyed by a wide range of visitors.
