Kitano Tenmangu Shrine
Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is the head shrine of Tenmangu Shrine and Tenjinsha throughout Japan, which enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning.
The Doi (gate) built by Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the Momoyama period (1573-1600) has become a historic site, the Doi "Maple Garden," with approximately 350 maple trees, and is a popular spot to enjoy green foliage in early summer and red foliage in autumn.
During the illumination period from November 9 (Sat.) to December 8 (Sun.), 2024, the surface of the Kamiya River, which runs north to south through the historic site of Midori-no-midoi "Momiji-en", will turn red, making it even more fantastic. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the garden's promenade while gazing up at the vividly colored autumn leaves.
