Until October 15, 2023 (Sunday), an exhibition "Mitsuru Yoshikawa / Soe Hayashi Exhibition" by a couple of ceramic artists who are active in Sennyu-ji Temple in Kyoto is being held at [hoka books].
Mr. Yoshikawa actively uses stencils and incorporates patterns with roots in different cultures, while Mr. Hayashi's works are characterized by irregular shapes such as wrinkles and distortions and generous patterns. It is a rare opportunity to be able to see two works of different styles in the same venue, even though they have been working in the same studio for many years.
The venue, hoka books, is a bookstore in an alley in Kyoto. The gallery, which is a renovated old townhouse, creates a space that resonates with the charm of the place by holding exhibitions not only inside but also outside facing the alley.
