Donghwa Catering Elevator

Japan's oldest elevator in Kyoto marks 100 years since its manufacture and importation.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the manufacture and importation of the oldest elevator in Japan, located in the long-established Chinese restaurant "Tohka Naikan" in Shijo-Ohashi, which is known for its Spanish Baroque Western-style building by American architect Vories.
The elevator, which is still in service, was manufactured and imported from the U.S. in 1924 by OTIS, and is equipped with very unusual devices such as a lattice-shaped bellows-type inner door and a clock-operated floor indicator. The elevator is manually operated by the operator, and its control panel and L-shaped double-opening doors are also distinctive in their sophisticated design.
Visit to experience the historical value of the architecture and space, where guests are treated to exquisite authentic Beijing cuisine.
