Kikutan", a popular vocabulary book for learning by ear that has sold over 5.5 million copies in total, has released a "Kyoto Edition" in collaboration with the city of Kyoto. This book provides basic vocabulary and English sentences that can be used in the streets of Kyoto and makes interaction with foreign tourists fun.
We conducted a questionnaire survey of Kyoto City staff and Kyoto City Tourism Association staff, carefully researching their experiences of what kinds of places and things they are often asked by foreign tourists, and whether they have ever felt frustrated because they could not speak English. After repeated checks by Kyoto City and native English-speaking staff members, the survey reflected realistic conversational situations and English sentences and words that can be used in real life. This book will help you to solve your problems of not being able to communicate with foreign tourists, such as simple explanations of temples and shrines, not to mention directions, and cautions against small violations of manners in the city.
