JAL Sweets Box

[Kyo-Kaisho Sasaya Iori and JAPAN AIRLINES collaborate to offer Japanese sweets made with dragon fruit for a limited time starting August 1 (Thursday)!

From August 1 (Thursday) to 31 (Saturday), 2024, a Japanese confectionery using dragon fruit, jointly developed by Kyo Kasho Sasaya Iori and JAPAN AIRLINES, will be on sale. This collaboration was realized because the two companies share the same philosophy of being grateful to nature and cherishing its bounty.

[JAPAN AIRLINES has been working for regional development by dispatching staff as JAL hometown ambassadors to the hometowns of cabin crew members and other areas with which they have a connection. In the course of these activities, they were faced with such problems as the inconsistent harvest of dragon fruit produced in Amami due to weather conditions such as typhoons, logistics problems unique to the island, and the difficulty of stably supplying the fruit outside the island, as it tends to get damaged quickly when it comes into season. In order to solve these problems, we have created an opportunity for people to taste fresh domestic dragon fruit by processing the pulp into a puree on the island.

This time, two products using puree and juice of dragon fruit from Amami Oshima will be on sale: "San San" (set of two kinds) and "Beniho (rouge)" (dried sweets). The name "San San" is derived from the image of the sun of Amami Oshima and the dragon fruit grown in the sun.

Mr. Terada, a Japanese confectionery artisan, said, "I was very worried about using fruits that I had never used before in making Japanese confectioneries. Also, since most kyogashi are light-colored, we took the plunge and created something with a different hue," he says.

The "Tsan Tsan" is available in two varieties: one made with kinton, a white bean paste with dragon fruit pulp mixed into the filling, and a kinton made to resemble dragon fruit, and the other made with konerikiri, a paste colored and flavored with dragon fruit juice, and cream cheese. The confectionery is light and refreshing, with just the right amount of sweetness and the crunchy dragonfruit seeds giving it a delightful texture.

They are considering a second and third collaboration product around this winter, so keep an eye out for future developments.
