Udon sponge cake, 2 pieces, 10 slices plain x 10 slices matcha
The model for this cup and saucer, with its lovely expression and gentle colors, is a wild bird called "Kojukei. The bird is painted by Taki Tomoda, a potter in Kyoto.
Mr. Tomoda studied painting techniques at the Kyoto Prefectural College of Ceramic Art and Design, and worked as a painter for five years at a tea ceremony potter's studio in Higashiyama, Kyoto. Later, in order to acquire molding skills, he studied at the same school again and became an independent potter. Currently, he works mainly with ceramics at his home and studio.
Mr. Tomoda is an integrated producer of all processes, from design, to the base material, to the painting. Mr. Tomoda first encountered "Kojikei" one day when he was walking in the mountains and saw a sign introducing wild birds. Since that day, he has not been able to forget the bird's cuteness and was inspired to paint it, and this cup and saucer was born.
Incidentally, the "kojukei" is a member of the pheasant family, and its total length is around 27 cm, about the same size as a pigeon. In Japan, the kojukei inhabits the plains of warm regions without snowfall, low mountainous areas around people's houses, wooded areas, and agricultural lands at altitudes of 1,000 m or less. They are also famous for their cry, which sounds like "chotto koi.
The unique patterns and expressions that Ms. Tomoda, who has become captivated by Kojukei, is able to create become more and more adorable each time they are used. The tableware becomes the star of the show just by placing it on the table, and can be used as a set or enjoyed with a snack on the saucer.
There are a total of three "Kojukei" painted on the side of the cup. Each of them has a slightly different face, which is also an attraction. When the cup is removed from the saucer, the chick appears. The bottom of the cup is decorated with an egg, making the cup enjoyable to look at from any angle.
KOJUKEI" cups and saucers create a sense of serenity just by drinking coffee or tea. Enjoy your coffee or tea in a relaxed atmosphere while thinking about the cute "Kojukei.
The sponge cake served on the saucer is from Kyoto-based sponge cake specialty store "Castella Udon," which is sold on Kyoto's "M Kyoto mall" website, and each piece of additive-free dough is carefully baked by hand using a method that has been handed down since the store was founded in 1971. The moist baked dough is a product where you can taste the original flavors of the ingredients, such as eggs and honey, and goes great with coffee or tea. Check them out as well.
The easy-to-drink warped cup and the gilding on the edge of the saucer give the cup a cute yet elegant look. Rather than for everyday use, you can enjoy an extraordinary time by using it as a treat for yourself or when you have guests over. Just pour coffee into a cup and place a piece of kuukki on a saucer, and you have the beginning, beginning, of a luxurious tea time. The table will be even more gorgeous if you decorate it with yellow or blue flowers to match the color of the kojukei's face.
