Fushimi Inari-taisha is one of the most famous shrines in Kyoto. The impressive appearance of the Senbon-torii gateway is a sight to behold. From the Senbon-torii gate behind the main shrine to Yotsuji Street, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the southern part of Kyoto, the round trip takes about one hour, which is a perfect walking course. From there to the top of Mt. Inari takes about two hours, so if you have the time, try it out.
[After taking your time to enjoy Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, you may want to have a little late breakfast. Vermillion-cafe. is a favorite among locals. The Vermillion Plate, a popular brunch menu item, is made with ingredients purchased as much as possible from stores in Kyoto, including bread from Shinshindo and Sengoku ham and sausage from Igaya in Fushimi. After brunch, how about a sweet treat to go with your meal? [The Mizu-Maru-Mochi of Marumochi-ya, located in the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine area, is famous on social networking sites. At first glance, you may not know what it is, but when you break the transparent balloon with a toothpick, a plump, watery rice cake pops out. The photo-worthy appearance of the mochi makes it a perfect souvenir photo for your trip to Japan.
A single mizu-maru-mochi (rice cake) with an addictive texture of plump and chewy is 500 yen. The kinako (soybean flour) and molasses toppings are a perfect match!
[From the Fushimi Inari Taisha area, take the 15-minute Keihan train to Shichijo Station. A must-see at least once is the Rengeoin Sanjusangendo Hall, which is lined with 1,001 statues of the National Treasure, the Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. Although its official name is "Rengeoin," it is commonly called "Sanjusangendo" because the main hall has 33 pillars. The sight of a total of 1,000 standing statues of the life-size Senju Senju Kannon, including the National Treasure seated Senju Kannon enshrined in the center of the hall, is a sight to behold. It is said that "you can meet a statue of Buddha with the same face as the person you want to meet," so take your time to look at the faces of the Kannon statues lined up in an orderly fashion and find the one you are looking for.
After touring around a lot in the morning, it was time to get hungry again. For lunch, we went to Udon Endo, a restaurant. The owner, Mr. Endo, is a famous "carrier" who used to make his living wholesaling fish to famous Kyoto restaurants, inns, and restaurants. Using his connections and knowledge from that time, he is able to offer delicious fish at reasonable prices. Udon for lunch is also a specialty, and a set of udon of your choice, sashimi (three kinds), and rice with pickles for 880 yen is surprisingly cost-effective.
The most popular lunch set for 880 yen is a high-quality, tender beef udon noodle and fresh, delicious three kinds of sashimi. Rice and pickles are also included, making it a hearty meal!
When you get off at Tofukuji Station, you cannot miss Tofukuji Temple. The temple is the head temple of the Tofukuji sect of the Rinzai Sect of Zen Buddhism and boasts a magnificent temple complex. The temple is one of the five temples of Kyoto, and has 25 temples and pagodas, and is crowded with green maple trees from May to June and magnificent autumn leaves from mid to late November. It is a place you will want to visit again and again as it changes its expression with the changing nature.
The view from Tsuten Bridge during the fall foliage season is so pleasing that it is called "autumn foliage that spreads out like a sea of clouds".
The gate (Sanmon) was rebuilt by Ashikaga Yoshimochi, the fourth Muromachi Shogun. It is the oldest existing gate of a Zen temple in Japan and is a national treasure.
When you come to Kyoto, you don't want to miss out on matcha sweets. [Otanien Tea Shop, located near Tofukuji Temple, is an Uji tea specialty store established in 1930. In the coffee shop corner, you can enjoy rich Japanese sweets made with Uji tea selected by a discerning connoisseur. Especially recommended is the hearty parfait, which includes homemade Uji tea soft serve, green tea sponge cake, and bracken rice cake all in one dish.
