Information on lighting up
The origin of the temple is a hermitage built in Kurodani by 43-year-old Honen Shonin at the end of the Heian period (794-1185), after completing his ascetic training on Mount Hiei.
The best spot to enjoy the autumn foliage is around the three-story pagoda. The view of the tunnel of autumn leaves stretching from both sides of the hill and the three-story pagoda at the back of the tunnel is exceptional.

Myokenji Temple was the first temple of Nichiren Shoshu in Kyoto and was Hideyoshi's permanent residence. Visitors can try their hand at copying a passage from the Lotus Sutra, the most important of Buddha's teachings, in the sutra copying experience, or visit one of the four different gardens and experience the beauty of the four seasons.
