[TOKINOHA Ceramic Studio...]
[We interviewed Ms. Miyuki Matoba, who handles the TOKINOTANE brand of TOKINOHA Ceramic Studio, about her thoughts on craftsmanship.
I am from Okayama Prefecture. I was exposed to the world of ceramics at university in Hiroshima and decided that I wanted to make this my life's work! I wanted to make this my life's work! I moved to the Kansai region to study the basics and enrolled in Kyoto Prefectural College of Ceramic Technology. While attending the college, I worked part-time at a pottery studio and TOKINOHA Ceramic Studio for about four years, and in 2021 I became an employee of TOKINOHA Ceramic Studio.
I think all of the processes that you follow in ceramics are interesting, but I think I am particularly attracted to the glaze. It is fun to experiment with the same mixture, but the colors are not exactly the same, depending on the temperature, temperature, and compatibility with the clay.
Since I am still a rookie, I have to do many small chores, but recently I have also been put in charge of tara molding. This is a method of creating various shapes by slicing clay thinly, shaping it into plates, and bending it.

I guess my favorite sweet thing is ice cream. I like vanilla, so I often buy it in the summer.
Born in Vienna, Lucy Lee was a potter active in England. She is said to have been in contact with Bernard Leach and Muneyoshi Yanagi, who are well known in Japan. We are impressed not only by the warm colors of her pottery, but also by her way of life, as she continued to make pottery despite being at the mercy of war.
