A Zen temple with a strict Zen style [Myoshinji Temple, Tenzoin]
The event, "Nighttime Viewing to Experience the Beauty of Ghosts," will be held at Myoshinji Keishunin Temple from October 1 (Fri.) to December 5 (Sun.), 2021, on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only.
Under the theme of "Light, Sound, and Time Weaving Ghostly Beauty," visitors can enjoy with all five senses the "ethereal world" created by the subtly illuminated precincts with minimal light, the sounds of traditional Japanese music, and a cup of tea. In addition to the "moss garden" and the "Hojo barrier paintings" by Kano Sansetsu, visitors will also be able to appreciate a hanging scroll of calligraphy by Zen master Ikkyu Sojun and a tea scoop by Sen no Rikyu.
In this issue, we will report on the preview in the form of a report.
The garden of scenic beauty, also called "moss garden" because of the beauty of moss, is composed of four sections: "garden of purity," "garden of wabi," "garden of thought," and "garden of Shinnyo," and the beauty of the garden when lit up is unbelievably beautiful.
It is also nice to be able to enjoy the autumn leaves for a long period of time as they change color from the "Shinnyo-no-niwa" garden at different times of the year.
Gagaku" is the world's oldest ensemble music performed by the wind instrument "sho". The two pieces by Sueko Ihara, a Ho-sho player, "Sousho-Chime," which is a prayer for a new era and revival, and "Koshiten-Gaku," a representative piece of traditional Japanese music, will allow you to experience the world of Gagaku through music that you may not be familiar with.
Experience a special tea ceremony in a room overlooking the "garden of the sun" at Gyokuchibo, which is linked to the lineage of Sen no Rikyu, whose 500th birthday will be celebrated next year.
In the tea ceremony room, visitors will be able to view a special hanging scroll with a tea scoop by Sen no Rikyu and Sen Sodan, as well as a calligraphy scroll actually written by Zen master Ikkyu Soujun.
Only the first of four seats available at Yoshikoh Kyoto's special Shokado bento boxes can be enjoyed while enjoying a relaxing view of the Shinnyo no Niwa garden. The bento is decorated with carefully prepared individual dishes such as sesame tofu, sashimi, simmered dishes, and beef stew.
Along with the bento, there will be white rice, red miso soup and warm tea.
This event was planned based on the ancient Japanese aesthetic of "shaving" rather than "adding". How about experiencing in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, an experience that is rarely possible in our densely populated daily lives?
