[2024] It's Not Too Late to Enjoy the Late Blooming Cherry Blossoms in Kyoto! Enjoy late-blooming cherry blossoms in Kyoto...
The documentary film "Kururi no Eiga" is being released and digitally distributed for a limited three-week period starting on October 13, 2023 (Friday). The film is being screened in Kyoto at MOVIX Kyoto, and Shigeru Kishida, Seishi Sato, and Nobuyuki Mori of Kururi appeared on stage to greet the audience at an advance screening the day before its release.
I'm not used to greeting people on stage, but I'm more nervous than I look," said Mr. Kishida, smiling as he appeared on stage. Sato continued, "The first time I came to MOVIX Kyoto was to see "Cloud Atlas" starring Tom Hanks, which was released a little over 10 years ago. I was happy to be here with the fans who had gathered at the venue. Mori said, "I'm Nobuyuki Mori, an original member of the band. How many of you knew Kururi when I was here? (Looking around the venue) Wow! Wow! There are quite a few! I'm so happy! (audience laughed) But there are also quite a few people who don't know the Kururi of the time I was there, so I hope everyone will enjoy the show, including those who don't know me.
Moderator: The film closely follows the music production process. How was the camp-style album production?
Kishida: There is a common saying, "eating out of the same pot," but getting together after a long time, eating the same food, sleeping in the same place, saying "good morning," and recording together is a bit out of the ordinary.
Mori: This may sound like a dirty word, but I would say that we share our emotions. For example, when we go to the sea in Izu to refresh ourselves, we can say, "Wow, the wind feels good," "The sea is so beautiful," "The food is delicious," etc. I feel that sharing these things with others leads to teamwork. I think that part is included in the video.
Moderator: How was the session for the three of you?
Kishida: I think we live in an age where we can create music remotely from the time when we couldn't get together at the Corona Disaster. However, when the three of us got together on an occasion like this, it was a nostalgic experience to be face to face with old friends, but it was also fun to get together with other people and make music together.
Mori: We have performed at the "Kyoto Music Expo" three times, but when it comes to recording, the story is a little different. I think that Kururi has evolved in a different way since I left, and it was refreshing to see the new form of Kururi that has matured so much, as well as the "ah-ha!
Moderator: How was the production with Mr. Mori?
Sato: Mr. Mori creates a roadmap in his mind and comes out with "this is the right answer! I had the feeling that the songs were moving forward. I could hear how he felt about the drums, something we never talked about in the past, and I could simply think, "Oh, I see.
This time, the time between the birth of the song and the recording was so short that I was thinking, "What was the structure of the song? I think the best thing about this time was that we were able to record the songs before everyone had forgotten how good they were. If we take the songs home and think about how to do them individually, the vectors will shift a little, and the original goodness will be lost.
When we were having a drink one night when things didn't go well, Mr. Mori said, "Oh, yes, that's what I was going to do then. I asked him, "Well, why didn't you? (laughter). I was able to enjoy that kind of nostalgic experience with Mr. Mori (audience laughed).
Moderator: You have been very productive with the release of your album, the "Kyoto Music Expo" 2DAYS, and the release of the movie, and you have also announced a tour.
Mori: The film shows the moment when "Ogya" was born, so please enjoy that first. The songs on the album have grown a bit since then. I've become about a young man. And you may see the songs that have grown up on the tour (laughs).
Kishida: I have to make sure I don't lose my cool (audience laughed).
Mori: I think it will be interesting to see how it grows, and I hope you will visit the tour.
Moderator: How is the future of [Kururi]?
Kishida: Sometimes I think about what I should do in the future, what kind of things I should do, but to put it simply, it's Kesera-sera (audience laughed). I think it's just going to be what it's going to be. I think there are some things that grew out of the album "Sensation is a Guidepost". As Mokkun said, "Ogya" has grown since then, and I think we, as the authors, will gain something in the process of its growth.
Moderator: Now, a message to those who are going to see the film!
Kishida: Some movies that you like are watched only once, and some you watch over and over, but I think people listen to their favorite records and CDs repeatedly. This is a film, but it is also a work of music, and I think you will discover many things if you watch it repeatedly. I hope you will stay with us for a long time.
