A weekend stay at a hotel that can be used safely even with the Corona disaster. The editorial department of the local magazine "Leaf" reports on [sequence KYOTO GOJO], which opened in August 2020!
Friday nights used to be a regular Friday night dinner with friends for the "Leaf" editorial staff. The Corona disaster has increased the number of weekends when we go straight home, and we are not feeling refreshed ....... That's when I came up with the idea of a weekend stay at the latest hotel. I chose "sequence KYOTO GOJO," which opened in August 2020 and is located in Karasuma Gojo, close to my office. Check-out time is 14:00 the next day, and they can enjoy plenty of treats for themselves before then. I will enjoy myself to the fullest from the end of my weekend work!
Check-in available from 5:00 p.m. This time I arrived at the hotel at 7:00 p.m. after work. At the entrance was a wall painting by BAKIBAKI, a street artist active in Japan and abroad. I was greeted by a BAKI patterned Goemon, an updated version of an ancient Japanese pattern.
First, choose either a card key or a face recognition key. If you choose the facial recognition key, you can use a keyless key when getting on the elevator or entering your room. I could not imagine that I could enter and exit rooms without hands!
After checking in, we first moved to our room. On this day, I stayed in a medium queen room, which is perfect for a single person. The room was divided into a black backstage area with a desk and washbasin, and a bed area with a fresh wood grain and white color. The monotone space, inspired by the ink painting of the Higashiyama culture of Kyoto, is sure to relax even the most weary mind. In addition to this room, there are a total of five other types of rooms available, including queen, accessible queen, twin, and 4-bedded rooms for girls' parties and families.
I entered the room and scurried around for a while, "Hey, is there a TV in this room?" I looked around and found a portable TV on the table. Upon closer inspection, I found a portable TV on the table. I can freely carry it to my bed, and the room is clean and comfortable. Being in a room that is the exact opposite of my home, which is overflowing with stuff, I felt as if my head, where worries had been piling up, was being organized.
Since you have registered a facial recognition key at the front desk, entering and exiting your room is easy and stress-free.
After a short rest in the room, we will enjoy dinner at THE TASTE, a restaurant and bar lounge seamlessly connected to the front part of the building on the first floor. There is a terrace and table seating, but this evening I am in the mood for a relaxing sofa seat. In front of the seemingly endless wall of lighting art, you will be immersed in an extraordinary experience.
For a pre-dinner drink, the bartender recommended a cocktail that combines the gentle sweetness of persimmon syrup with the exotic flavor of octagon. We also enjoyed a hot seasonal vegetable salad with a variety of vegetables and ricotta cheese gnocchi, a dish full of mushrooms and very autumnal.
Seasonal Cocktail Starry Autumn 1,200 yen.
We were served a French wine with a salty, dry taste, selected by a French sommelier to match our two dishes. Other excellent wines from Japan and abroad, including those from Yamanashi and Spain, are also available.
Bartender from Argentina. Cocktails change with the seasons.
Seasonal Vegetable Salad with Paprika Sauce, 700 yen; Ricotta Cheese Gnocchi with Sage and Butter Sauce, 1,300 yen. Wine (from 3,000 yen per bottle) is also available.
Sofa seats with impressive lighting art. Other seating options include counter and table seating to suit your preference.
At the end of the day, head to the B1F where relaxation facilities are located. The bathtub and shower [THE BATH] and the aroma steam sauna and experience shower [THE SAUNA] are switched daily between men and women. On the night of our arrival, women were able to use THE BATH. In addition to the large bathtub that looks like something out of a scene from a movie, they could also enjoy the bedrock bath with hot stones in the center, detoxifying their stress along with their sweat!
The bath space is as urban as the rooms. Soaking in the spacious bathtub will release your stiff body. Since I usually just take a shower, this alone is enough to relax me!
Check-out time is until 14:00, so you can relax in the morning. [The breakfast style at THE TASTE is open from 7:00 to 14:00, anytime, as many times as you like. You can enjoy chef's creations such as salmon sandwiches, eggs benedict with melt-in-yolk, carrot rappe, seasonal fruits, and other healthy foods. The drink menu includes coffee, café lattes, and homemade lemonade full of vitamin C that women love.
You will surely be excited by the stylish breakfast that you cannot usually have.
We had plenty of time before check-out, so we decided to continue enjoying some pampering time for ourselves. I headed to the large steam sauna [THE SAUNA]. Repeating the aroma-scented sauna and mist shower seemed to smooth out the circulation of my entire body. The aroma changes seasonally, but on this particular day, the aroma was of lavender, a soothing and relaxing scent.
Even after refreshing yourself in the sauna, there is still plenty of time to spare. You can prepare and pack leisurely without being pressed for time. Smart checkout is available, so all you have to do is touch the tablet in your room to complete the checkout process. You will want to tell someone about this convenience.
Check out smartly with the tablet in your room.
The original tumbler purchased at check-in, 600 yen (tax included), offers free coffee for as many cups as you want during your stay, so I got another cup before leaving for home.
Also available at Shibuya, Tokyo [sequence MIYASHITA PARK] and Suidobashi, Tokyo [sequence SUIDOBASHI].
The latest technology with face recognition key check-in and check-out, a restaurant that you can enjoy alone without hesitation, and a simple and clean room are all surprising points of interest. The staff were friendly and helpful, so I was able to enjoy my stay by myself. The excellent service made me feel stress-free, and I recovered from my fatigue! Next time, I would like to invite my friends and spend a fun time together in a 4-bed room with a screen.
The hotel's cafe & restaurant [THE TASTE] stands out on Karasuma-dori as an open, stylish spot. It is open to everyone except for morning hours, so it would be nice to call your friends and have a relaxing holiday talk. During café hours (14:00-17:00), the restaurant offers a wide variety of its signature sweets and drinks.
Lemon custard and meringue tart 700 yen, Fukujuen Japanese black tea 600 yen.
The impressive lights, inspired by traditional Kyoto craftsmanship, are eye-catching from Karasuma-dori.
